The start of a new school year is a time of anticipation and mixed emotions. If your child stutters, here are some ways parents can help make returning to school pleasant and rewarding:

- Children who stutter sometimes have problems with teasing and bullying at school. The NSA has some advice and a booklet.

- Visit the school speech therapist to discuss your child's therapy and ways that you can help at home.
- Encourage your child to talk about stuttering with classmates. Some kids even do class presentations about stuttering, and the NSA has a guide to help them. (Download this brochure free in PDF format or purchase it from the NSA Store.)
