OUTREACH
Together, we can make a difference in the lives of people who stutter!
Below are a few ideas on the various ways that YOU can help spread the word on stuttering and educate others on the subject at the same time. Processes for these outreach efforts are in place and materials are ready to be distributed. The only thing missing is more people to assist with these very important tasks. Help us to spread the word on stuttering and help improve the lives of people who stutter!
Contacting Your Local Newspaper
Many local newspapers offer free advertising for group events and support groups ,but finding out who to contact and knowing what to say is sometimes hard. Below you will find suggested verbiage and a link that will help you reach local newspapers in their state. Use sites such as 50States.com to find a comprehensive list of newspapers. Dependent upon which paper you select, it may take a few minutes to determine the appropriate section of the site that will allow you to request an ad, such as advertising, Letter to the Editor, etc.
Suggested wording for advertising the NSA
"Do you stutter? Do you know someone who stutters? The National Stuttering Association (NSA) can help! The NSA is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to bringing hope, dignity, support, education, and empowerment to children and adults who stutter. The NSA has thousands of members nationwide with over 100 local support groups. To learn more about stuttering and the NSA, please visit the NSA website - WeStutter.org or contact them at Info@WeStutter.org or 1-800-937-8888."
Do you ever come across someone who stutters and wish you had something to either hand them or "conveniently" leave behind for them to inform them of the NSA and how to contact us? Maybe you run across a PWS at a retail store, a waiter at your favorite restaurant, at a social event or a brief encounter as you cross each others paths. Also, it would be a great idea to provide to school SLPs for distribution to their clients or parents. Think back to the time before you found the NSA...wouldn't it have been nice to know that an organization like the NSA existed?
The linked Word file contains easy-to-print business cards (2"H x 3.5"W) advertising the NSA. These cards can also be printed at any of the following sites (some sites offer free or discounted printing for non-profit organizations). Printing in color is preferred but black and white is fine also.
Printing From Home/Work using Word? Use Label manufacturer/model numbers: Avery 3612, 5371, 5372, 5376, 5377, 5911, 8371, 8372, 8373, 8376, 8377 or online business card printing sites such as VistaPrint or BizCard.
Please contact Volunteer Coordinator Cathy Olish for materials, more information, or with any questions regarding any of the above outreach efforts.
